We're pleased to announce that we have received advice from the Secretary of the Department of Health, Prof. Euan Wallace AM that all PCPs will be transitioned into Local Public Health Units (LPHUs).

Professor Wallace noted that the establishment of LPHUs in a renewed and contemporary public health system offers a unique opportunity to improve population health outcomes for local communities by consolidating skills, knowledge and governance across a catchment area. It offers a consistent authorising environment to influence system level change and a renewed focus on place-based health promotion and prevention.

For Southern Melbourne PCP, this transition will be into the South East Public Health Unit.

This outcome is fantastic recognition of the work undertaken within all PCPs and a great opportunity to be involved in shaping the future of public health including strengthening health promotion, prevention and community engagement.

Now that the Department has provided certainty around the ‘future state’ of PCPs we have a clear pathway forward. The Department will be engaging with all PCPs individually and collectively to co-design the development of transition plans to ensure the successful management of current activity and full reinvestment of program funding.

We will provide further updates to our valued partners as more details become available.
