Aboriginal smoking ceremony

Under the Victorian Government's Koolin Balit Aboriginal Health Strategy, SMPCP are leading an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Access Project. The project aims to:

  • Identify unmet needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the Urban South

  • Improve service delivery to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the Urban South

  • Improve access/utilisation of Aboriginal and mainstream primary health services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people

  • Plan, co-ordinate and develop of services to address unmet needs

Activities of the project to date have included:

  • Cultural awareness training
  • Monthly community activites at Connect Health & Community
  • Development of a pdfservice brochure1.04 MB
  • Celebration of significant cultural events
  • Establishment of a Koorie Play Group
  • Community survey
